Gmac's Rescap in Trouble

Back in the days banks refused to loan money if the reason for it is to purchase a car. During those times it’s not considered practical for someone to loan for mere luxury. Such attitude of the banks has frustrated automakers like General Motors which naturally wanted for people to purchase their vehicles. Since financing was the main problem during those times GM has decided to solve the problem by becoming its own bank.





It was in the year 1919 when GM—world’s largest automaker and producer of quality GM grille insert --- created the General Motors Acceptance Corp., which has become the financial arm of the automaker. The GMAC was created to offer specialized credit to would-be car buyers of GM by means of installment plans.





GMAC has become a huge success and over the years has expanded its operations until it became the significant bottom-line contributor to GM’s profit. Then in the year 1985, GM’s executives decided to further expand the scope of GMAC and this time it will not only be loaning money to purchase cars but loan money to buy homes as well. To pushed through with this plan General Motors has purchased two large mortgage lenders and became the second largest mortgage bank in the US.





In the course of its operation GMAC has also became an expert player in the aspect of structured finance or derivatives. It has taken the income streams generated by all those car and mortgage payments and turned them into bonds through the “securitization” process wherein these bonds are sold off to investors. The GMAC can be considered as a perfect picture to portray an American corporation.





However lately, the GMAC has been painting not so good financial images. And last Thursday GM has succeeded in shaking up Wall Street when it announced that it was delaying the filing of its 2006 Annual Report by a couple of weeks. According to analysts, the reason for the delay was the significant exposure of GMAC to the ever popular subprime lending catastrophe. Just like the other players in the mortgage business, GMAC’s home lending subsidiary, ResCap has been caught in a rather awful situation when it allowed risky loans to homeowners with bad credits.





In a report by the Houston Chronicle, it pictured ResCap as the crown jewel in GMAC’s businesses holding $57 billion of subprime mortgages for investment or approximately 77% of its total loans held for investment. So where did ResCap failed?





The exposure that ResCap had in residual interest in mortgage securities was one of the cited caused of its problem since the loan defaults have turned out to be higher than expected and last Sept. 30 ResCap has recorded loss amounting to $1.4 billion. What will be the effect of such loss to General Motors?





General Motors although the world’s largest automaker is quite a big institution and its financial arm GMAC is in the same respect a huge financial player. But due to the not so clear nature of derivatives trading business, not even the mighty GM can exactly say up to what extent the ResCap problem can affect it. But various analysts said that it’s not going to be good for the automaker.

The Chevrolet Impala is a full-size automobile built by the Chevrolet division of Genral Motors introduced for the 1958 model year. Deriving its name from the southern African antelope, Chevrolet's most expensive passenger model through 1965 had become the best selling automobile in the Unites States. The Impala remained Chevrolet's top-selling model with the fifth generation. A high-performance big block V8 was still available in the form of the Turbo-Jet 454, which produced 365 hp in 1971, but power decreased as the years went along. The 1971 redesigned B-body would be the largest car ever offered by Chevrolet. In 1974, the rear bumper was redesigned with shock absorbers to meet the upgraded standards and new tail lights were featured. The front end was also freshened as in previous years, with a new grille and headlight bezels, a new header panel, and a bumper with a drop down center section. My 1988 Astro Van Burn Out. 350 V8 L98

350 L98 Corvette motor pulled from a 92 camaro mounted to a TH700R4 transmission, Race lights on the rear, 4 core racing aluminum radiator with a super high CFM electric fan, 2" drop spinals on the front, 3 3/4 custom exhaust, 0-60 under 6 seconds, 50-80mph to pass traffic in under 3 seconds, and if I can keep my foot out of it, I get 22-25 mpg in part thanks to the TH700R5 Tranny,. Shifts rom 1-2 almost right away, will not shift out of second till Im nearing 80, if I was not too damn scared Id say it will get this brick on wheels close to the 15-=170 range, and all of this in a sleeper 22 year old, rust free Astro van. I slide by every cop, and nothing a cop would ever look at first to ever be speeding looking down the radar gun, even though it has a after market grill. This is the ultimate sleeper mobile.

Shane McHenry and his brother Stuart from Lexington, Texas, had initial thoughts of transforming it into a rat rod. After spending six weeks just on the frame and suspension, they decided if they were going to put that much time and effort into a project, it was going to be a serious, custom showstopper. These people own and operate McHenry Custom Auto Body in Blue, Texas. After removing the fenders, hood, grille, etc, it was then sent out and sandblasted, uncovering fresh steel. The framerails were then boxed using 1/4-inch thick steel plate. The rear section of the framerails were stepped nine inches, allowing increased negative travel of the four-linked rear suspension when the Ride Tech bellows were purged. The American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels and BFGoodrich 295/45R15 chubby tires tuck up inside the rear fenders every time the 'bags are delfated. The entire frame and suspension components were painted Valspar MW5501 two-stage '08 Corvette copper. A TCI Mustang II front clip with two-inch drop spindles and GM disc brakes were grafted onto the framerails just in front of the firewall. A pair of polished aluminum American Torque Thrust II 15x7-inch wheels were consumed in BFGoodrich 195/45R15 rubber and provide the front directional contact patch. Deflating the front Ride Tech pneumatic suspension allows the front bumper to kiss the asphalt. A museum piece, 3,700 miles from my friends at Packey Webb Auto Center! A true modern classic from 1996 ... Chevrolet Impala SS! The Impala SS was uniquely identified by a standard 3.08 gear. The rear limited-slip differential was standard (such as the possibility of contradiction Capricci G80) and the suspension, which was an inch lower. A retuned LT1 5.7-liter V8 (350 cu in) small-block was standard on the Impala SS, was 260 hp (190 kW) and 330 pound-feet (450 N * m) of torque (retuned byPrototype of 300 hp (220 kW) rating). The main difference between the LT1 in the Impala LT1 that was in the Corvette and Camaro was that the Impala engine with cast iron cylinder heads was in place of aluminum and a camshaft, designed for the most low-end torque for high-end performance. How to Cook a Pork Loin on the Grill

Ever wonder on how to cook a pork loin on the grill? Let me tell you this. The pork loin is a very lean meat with minimal fat. It's just as lean as chicken breasts without the skin. You must be careful as to not over cook this meat, because it will dry up.

When I first cooked my pork loins I grilled them. Being careful not to over cook them I watched the meat thermometer reach 160 degrees. Thinking that it was done I took them out and yes when I started to slice them up I quickly realised that they were overdone. What I never thought of is when the temperature reaches 160 degrees while the pork loin is still on the grill the temperature continues to climb even after you take it out. So what must be done is to remove the meat when the temperature reaches anywhere from 150 - 155 degrees. If you know if you will reheat it before serving it remove it at 145 degrees so you won't over cook it.

In case you were wondering where the loin is located, it is between the shoulder and leg. So in order to prepare the pork loin we will first get the ingredients together for the marinade that I have at the bottom. After mixing all the ingredients together pour it in a plastic bag and insert the pork loin in with it and refrigerate overnight.

The next day before you grill remove the pork loin from the refrigerator and leave it on the counter until the grill is ready. It's best to get the meat up to about room temperature before putting on the grill. Prepare the grill for indirect heat by placing the coals on one side of the grill. While the coals are getting ready soak some wood chips for about a half hour. The wood I like using for pork is apple, oak, or hickory or a combination of apple and oak. This gives it a very special taste.

When the charcoal is grey it's time to place the meat on the grill opposite the coals. Insert a meat thermometer set at 150 degrees. Place wood chips on top of the coals and cover the grill. After about 25 minutes remove the cover of the grill and rotate the pork loin 180 degrees so the meat will cook evenly. Check the temperature at around 45 minutes. When the temperature reaches 150 degrees plan on removing the meat. The internal temperature will continue to rise. This is why you need to remove the loin anywhere between 150-155 degrees and let it rest. I truly believe this is the best way on cooking a pork loin on the grill. The secret are the wood chips.

Try using the marinade I have to give it even a more tender feel to it. The taste is out of this world.

One-quarter cup olive oil
One-quarter cup chopped parsley
One medium white onion, chopped
Tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
One tablespoon chopped fresh garlic
One tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Two teaspoons salt
One teaspoon black pepper
Juice of one lime
One cup water

The 1973 model year introduced a hatchback bodystyle based on the 2-door coupe. Make a Halloween Pumpkin Cake

Ingredients

2 pkgs. Cake Mix

2 Cans Prepared White Frosting

Food Coloring (red, yellow, and green)

1 Hostess Ho-Ho or similar cake-roll snack item (optional)

Bundt pan

Cupcake pan

Method:

Fill one of the cupcake wells 2/3 full with cake batter. Pour the rest of the cake batter into the bundt pan.

Bake the bundt cake according to package directions. Keep an eye on the cupcake as it will cook and be done before the cake. Make the second bundt cake (or use 2 bundt pans and bake together to save time). Let the finished cakes cool completely.

Reserve 1/2 cup of the white frosting and color the rest orange. This is done by slowly adding drops of yellow and red food coloring until you have just the right shade of orange. Adding more yellow will lighten the color, while adding red will deepen it.

Place one cake upside down on a platter and frost the top with the orange frosting. Now place the second cake on top of the first, flat side down. Frost both cakes together, using up and down motion to simulate the lines in a pumpkin.

Insert the cupcake upside-down into the hole in the top of the bundt cakes to make the pumpkin's stem. Color the reserved frosting green and frost the cupcake stem.

If desired, make a face on the pumpkin using gumdrops or jelly beans for eyes and nose, black licorice whips for the mouth, candy corn for teeth, etc.

Variation: Frost a Hostess Ho-Ho or other cake roll type dessert to make the stem, instead of the cupcake.

The guy welding and operating the molding machine is myself. As my profile states, at this plant I'm maintenance, machine setup, process technician, toolsetter and a welder! Thats what letting your boss know what you are capable of gets you, 5 jobs one paycheck... In the end this plant closed. It's production represented 10% of all the united states electroplated chrome parts. We supplied major parts and assemblies for the big three in huge quantities. If you drive any chevy truck and it has a chrome bumper me or one of my friends made the grille and bumper that goes on it. We made ALL of the Malibu grilles and hundreds of thousands of parts daily. We could produce 3500 sets of chrome bumper assemblies to fit the New Chevrolet 1500HD pickup per day. The greedy folks in the UAW went on strike and shut the entire GMT900 line down. that was 45 people laid off immediately. That was just our GMT900 line, we had several other lines that also shut down completely or went to very low production when they went on strike. The UAW is going to be in trouble when they don't have any employers to negotiate with because they went defunct. Unions are counter productive and hurtful to almost everyone involved.
