How to Build a BBQ Pit

There is nothing like having outdoor activities whether with family, friends or colleagues. Barbecue is one of the best things.

It does not have to be summer to enjoy the sweet aroma of the baby back ribs but instead for all year round. You just need to have the right BBQ pit that fits perfectly for you and your lifestyle.

Whether a brick or metal BBQ pit, it is essential that we need to consider the following things on How to Build BBQ Pit:

Location - It should not be very too close or very far to house so that it will not be tedious to come back and forth from kitchen. However, do not keep it too close to your neighbor either. Keep a proper distance from fences, overhead trees, electrical wires or things that can catch fire. It is advisable to have a clear area around the BBQ pit. Also try to figure out which way the wind normally blows so you do not pick a spot where the chef is going to get smoke directly to his face or areas you do not want the smoke to go.

Size and Design - Size and design of the BBQ pit will definitely be based on your lifestyle. It always helps to keep in mind if it is intended to serve for barbecue parties with your friends, or to small family affairs. Decide on the size accordingly. You could also want to include one or two shelves so you can keep your grilling equipments close at hand when cooking or adding hooks to your pit to hang utensils while cooking. Draw a plan with clear and proper measurements and marked where the hooks have to be inserted. This is a way to prevent any confusion during construction of the BBQ pit.

Steps in Building BBQ Pit

1. For brick grills, bricks need to be soaked in water the previous night so that it will be wet enough. If they are dry, they will soak in mortar.

2. At the yard, using a shovel, dig a 3 feet by 5 feet trench in 8 to 10 inches deep. Then level the trench using a hand tamp.

3. On top of the trench, pour gravel about 2 to 3 inches high.

4. Create the mixture of dry mortar and water then spread 2 inch thick circular layer around the edge of the gravel.

5. Mortar tends to dry-off rather quickly so while wet, smooth the surface with a trowel. Start laying the cinder blocks along the edges of the mortar and fill gaps between the cinder blocks with wet mortar.

6. Fill the hole with dirt as the mortar dries. Spread fresh mortar on top of the cinder blocks and smooth.

7. Always remove excess mortar that has been squeezed out from the bricks as you arrange the bricks. Keep the wall of the pit even.

8. For metal pit, install the metal cylinder or can over the layer of bricks then fit the grill top onto the top of the metal furnace.

9. For a brick pit, apply more mortar and build additional brick layers until you reach the desired height then insert metal braces into the mortar layer of the top layer of bricks. Let it dry overnight and then the metal grill will be balanced on top of the metal braces.

Happy barbecuing!

Should You Remodel To Make Your Wood Burning Fireplace Gas?

If you have a wood burning stove, you may consider remodeling the wood burning stove into a gas stove. As technology has advanced, gas fireplaces have become more prevalent and have many advantages over the wood burning fireplace. However, you will have to decide if the advantages of gas outweigh the advantages of wood burning to justify the expense of remodeling your fireplace.

You most likely have a central heating system even if you do have a fireplace. Modern homes do not need fireplaces to depend on heat during the cold months. However, many people still enjoy a fireplace in their home. You will want to understand the different types of fireplaces before deciding to renovate or change your existing fireplace.

The wood fireplace has is not as common as it once was. Wood is not as readily available either. If you have seen prices of wood at a grocery store, you may have thought of the term `burning money.' You can find wood cheaper if you look, but you will most likely have to purchase in bulk and store it at your house and if you live in a townhouse or condo, this may not be convenient.

Additionally, some places have limits on when you can and can't burn your wood in the fireplace. Air pollution is monitored very carefully in some cities and they don't want wood burned if the pollution is beyond a certain limit.

For these reasons and others, you may want to consider changing your fireplace from wood burning to gas burning. Natural gas fireplaces are much cleaner sources of heat than wood burning. The natural gas is already connected to your home so it could be fairly inexpensive to run a gas line to your fireplace area for the renovation. Additionally, you will not have to deal with the acquisition and storage of wood.

However, gas can get fairly expensive as an alternative fuel source. During the winter months when you want to use your fireplace and other people are heating their homes, the demand for natural gas increases. As the demand increases so does costs. Hence, the logistics of dealing with gas is much simpler than wood, but it can also be much more expensive too.

You may view a gas fireplace as safer too. A traditional wood burning fireplace has a fire that pops and throws sparks. Additionally, you normally have to let the fire burn until it uses up all of the fuel. With a gas fireplace, you can turn it on and off with a switch and it isn't spitting sparks out onto the carpet as a fire hazard.

Some of the first gas fireplaces looked more like a BBQ grill than a fireplace. However, today's gas fireplaces can be controlled with remote control and adjusted to look like crackling orange and yellow flames. The artificial logs often resemble natural split logs, complete with a satisfying glow of embers.

Lastly, wood fireplaces require a consistent maintenance to keep them in safe operating order. Gas fireplaces do not require nearly as much maintenance. Hence, gas fireplaces would be most useful for those who are not comfortable with maintenance or do not have the capacity to store excess wood on their property. Families with small children may also benefit from the instant on/instant off options offered by gas fireplace systems.

In summary, gas fireplaces are becoming more and more popular. You may want to change your wood burning fireplace to a gas fireplace. Some reasons you should consider is that gas burns cleaner, you don't have to deal with wood logistics and in some ways the gas fireplace is much safer.

Is it Safe to Store Gas in My Car?

It is absolutely safe to store gas in vehicle, but it must be kept in an accepted tank or container. Gas containers should be supplied with an accepted label as needed by the state and federal authorities. Storing in almost anything except approved containers is prohibited strictly by the fire prevention rules.

Gasoline is in fact an 'inflammable' liquid and must be kept at the room temperature, far away from probable heat sources like a furnace, space heater, hot-water heater and various ignition sources. Gas vapors are actually heavier than the air and so can move along floor to the ignition sources. This is why, igniters and pilot lights must be kept above fifty ft from where the gas is kept or handled.

Some other precautions include:
• One should not 'smoke' where gas is stored or handled.
• One should always keep the gas out of reach from kids.
• The gas container should be closed tightly and handled gently to keep away from spills.
• For better freshening, it is always best to deal with gas outdoors.
• One should not combine even a smaller proportion of gas with diesel or kerosene.
• Using gas in kerosene lamps or heaters may also cause problems.
• The gasoline should be stored in building situated away from place or house of residence, such as garage or shed.
• The gasoline should be put in small engine (just like lawnmower) only when engine or add-ons are cool.

Minor spills can be soaked up with rags, paper and sawdust. Large pills can be collected and contained. It is important to check out with local hazardous waste-disposal center or government rules to find out right avenues for the disposal of spilled gas.

In Search Of The Authentic: The 2007 Jeep Commander

One of the many promises of the American dream is the freedom to explore its vast open spaces. To accommodate this task, the 2007 Jeep Commander has been engineered to capture the authentic feel of the traditional Jeep. Prior to building the 2007 Commander, the strategists at Jeep/Chrysler researched the brand's heritage. The results suggested loyal Jeep customers were enthusiasts who held onto their traditional, boxy Wagoneer and Cherokees models with the seven slot grill an average of thirteen years. The vintage look favored by the enthusiasts was in sharp contrast to the plastic exterior of more recent Jeep designs. Consequently, the sheet-metal shape for the 2007 Commander is inspired by Willys-Overland, the Wagoneer, and the Cherokee; elements from all three can be found on the new Commander to address the need for an authentic Jeep.

To span the great distances in the beautiful American countryside requires a well-appointed cabin. When you step inside the 2007 Jeep Commander, you'll find yourself in the roomiest interior ever seen in any Jeep. The three-row stadium seating is capable of accommodating seven people. The two front seats are exceptional with ample creature comforts and supple support for long drives. The step-up roof design makes the second and third row seats appear more spacious due to the higher ceiling and improved lighting. The inner cabin features dual skylights ensuring a wide open view for all passengers. The third row seats are good for young children and pets, as there is not much room for full-sized adults. The magnified interior is in sharp contrast to the compact exterior making it easier to park, drive or maneuver the Commander in tight corners of urban sprawl, or drive on the open road of the vast countryside in sheer comfort.

The heart of the 2007 Jeep Commander is the engine. The most popular is the fuel efficient 3.7-liter V6 210 horsepower engine that averages 16 mpg city, 20 mpg highway. The 4.7-liter V8 generates 235 horsepower at 305 lbs./ft. of torque averages 15 mpg city, 19 mpg highway; and the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 ponies up best in class 330 horsepower at 375 lbs./ft. of torque, enabling you to overtake and merge with greater ease. The V8 Hemi's towing capacity is also best in class at 7,200 pounds, and also features the Multi-Displacement System(TM) for greater fuel economy. The Hemi de-activates four of the eight cylinders at 40-60 mph to increase fuel efficiency.

Compared to other SUVs in its class, the 2007 Jeep Commander feels nimble in day-to-day city driving. In comparison to the new Ford Explorer, the 2007 Jeep Commander feels more connected to the road, more refined in its fit and finish. The steering feels more responsive and precise. Step on the throttle, the response is immediate. There's always plenty of torque available at a lower rpm, and on the highway, the ride is smooth and quiet. The combination of the classic exterior styling, uncompromising driving position, and the distinctive eye catching interior cabin puts the 2007 Jeep Commander ahead of the Ford Explorer.

Historically, the 2007 Jeep Commander can be traced back to the Willys-Overland Jeepster, the first SUV of its kind, sold to civilians in 1948. It had two doors and could accommodate up to five passengers. The 2007 Commander retains true Jeep heritage by offering authentic exterior styling, a well-appointed cabin and a number of safety innovations as standard equipment. The availability of the hybrid engine would make this an even better vehicle. As such, the MSRP of $27,985 - $38,900 for the 2007 Jeep Commander provides good value for families who need an authentic SUV for cross-country driving.

How to Grill Stuffed Jalapeno Peppers

As springtime nears, the weather warms up and the birds begin to sing...it is time to be thinking about breaking out the old charcoal or gas grill. Backyard chefs from Vermont to Georgia are looking for special dishes to serve their guests. With that in mind you might be interested and ready to try something in addition to the normal hamburger or hot dogs you normally serve.

When looking into various sauces or rub combinations, you may want to think about a nice appetizer too add to your repertoire. Taking the basic recipe below and adding a twist, will allow you to place your own special signature variation on this dish. As a tasty precursor to whet the appetites of your guests, you'll find it not only easy to make, but quite the crowd pleaser.

Grilled Stuffed Jalapenos is a great idea for setting yourself apart from the rest of the backyard hacks who know nothing about grilling or smoking a great meal. Of course this tasty sensation has been around for awhile, but it can be tailored with special ingredients that will set yours apart from any other.

For this event to truly be done the right way, we would suggest that you acquire a Chile Grill. This device is a simple metal cooking stand that provides a way for Chile peppers to stand upright inside the grill while they roast. As the Chile pepper cooks, the bubbling cheese mixture and bacon wrapped exterior will contain the succulent juices from dripping into the abyss underneath.

The basic ingredients for this dish are as follows:

* Jalapeno Chile Peppers

* Cream Cheese

* Bacon

* Minced Garlic

Optional Ingredients

* Onion

* Italian Sausage

* Parmesan cheese

* Mozzarella cheese

* Monterrey Jack cheese

* Salsa

Remove the tops and internal seeds from the Chile peppers. If they are spicy, you may want to wear gloves to prevent the juice from interacting with eyes etc.

Dice garlic and onion into small fine pieces. You can also use a food processor to chop up to desired consistency. Add cream cheese and other ingredients together with garlic and onion. Once the mixture has been properly folded together, places each into the Chile grill stand. You may need to insert a toothpick horizontally to keep it from dropping through the hole.

Insert mixture into the cavity of each pepper and wrap top with bacon. Insert the existing toothpick through the bacon to keep it in place.

Set on rack inside the pre-heated grill until bacon is thoroughly cooked and oozing with goodness. Serve with salsa garnish...delicious!

How To Use A Sink Auger

Having a clogged sink is a common problem for homeowners. Using a sink auger is a simple way to unclog a sink. A sink auger is commonly called a plumber's snake, drum auger or canister auger.

STEP ONE:

Remove the sink stopper and insert the auger cable into the drain until you have hit the clog. (You will have to loosen the screw on the side of the auger body for the cable to be extended.)

STEP TWO:

Leave ample room for you to be able to work with the auger(about a foot), and re-tighten the screw.

STEP THREE:

Start turning the crank on the auger until you can feel the clog, and then un-tighten the screw and insert a little more of the auger cable. Re-tighten the screw and keep repeating this step until the clog is freed.

STEP FOUR:

Flush out the pipe with hot water. Rinse of the auger cable thoroughly before retracting it.

If your drain is working properly, your job is complete. If the drain is still clogged, it could mean that the clog is past the water trap. The water trap is the part of your sink drain that sinks down like a U. If the clog is past the water trap, you still have a bit more work to do.

STEP FIVE:

Make sure the water is turned off. Unhook the water trap from the adjoining pipes(it is wise to have some sort of container or bucket underneath the water trap to catch any water that may still be in it.)

STEP SIX:

Insert auger cable into the flat area of the pipe, then go back to step two and follow the steps again, until the pipe is unclogged.

If this procedure does not work, it's time to call the plumber.

The Dangers of Bull Bars in Road Traffic Accidents

Do you know what a bull bar is? Many SUVs have bull bars on the front of their vehicles in an effort to protect their cars and their passengers in the event of a collision with an animal.

What Do They Look Like?

A bull bar is a device that is fitted on the front of the SUV. It does not come standard on the vehicle, it is added to the vehicle. These bars vary in size and shape, however they are usually made out of welded steel or aluminum tubing.

Why Are They Controversial?

In the UK and the rest of Europe bull bars remain controversial. Although many claim that these devices are helpful at preventing injuries, reports indicate that they actually cause many deaths. On average, over 2,000 people in Europe die as a result of a collision with a bull bar and an additional 18,000 people are seriously injured.

Pedestrians

The major people that seem to be at risk when it comes to these common bars are pedestrians. Because the majority of them are constructed of metal, if they were to be hit by a car with a them attached, their injuries could be fatal. However, some people argue that the new technology of the these bars is safer for pedestrians. Yet, if this is true, than how could they still be effective at preventing collisions with animals?

Do They Make Cars Safe?

While there may be some potential benefits to using a bull bar on your car, the costs seem to outweigh them in this situation. The research seems to show that motorists can injure the lives of others on the road when they drive with thesel bars on their car. It is not safe or fair to the other drivers on the road because the metal does not crash well and can do serious harm to others on the road including pedestrians.

When They Make Sense?

Why then do people use these bars if they are not safe? The truth is they make sense for some cases. If you do a lot of off road driving and you may be at risk for running into animals, then you should place a bull bar on your SUV. However, if you are going to be driving around the streets of England, then you will be risking the lives of others by driving with a bars like this on your car. Therefore, try to think before you act. Remember, you are not the only person on the road and part of being a good driver means taking responsibility for not only yourself but also the others on the road. This is a decision that every good driver makes daily. You can do it as well. Good luck.

Hydrogen Fuel Car

Home kits can now convert cars and trucks to run on water using hydrogen power. A hydrogen fuel powered car is almost a must for many people in the USA and elsewhere.

Hydrogen fuel powered cars were thought to be the preserve of large automobile companies, but things are changing. It may appear fanciful to expect to be able to convert your car from gas to water yourself but that is, in fact, a reality nowadays. There are now a number of manuals and kits available at little initial cost, for example, the system created by HydroPower.

Once the vehicle has been converted to run on water, you can rest content that you are benefiting the environment whilst paying a fraction of your previous fuel bills. Many people have been skeptical about whether a water fueled conversion system actually works.

So, let's take a look at the mechanics of such a system. A standard vehicle engine is converted to operate entirely on hydrogen and oxygen, generated by the electrolysis of water. No petroleum derived fuel or external electrical production unit is employed, or needed in any way. Water is the single by-product of the combustion of hydrogen and oxygen in the vehicle's engine. This water is then released through the exhaust system; no more nasty carbon monoxide emissions, just pure water. One of the best systems on the market comes from HydoPower.

All that's required for such a system is a little know-how, a few cheap tools and regular access to water; not a problem for most householders. There are also claims that the combustion system will also remove pollution from the air intake. It doesn't get much greener than that.

So what is water electrolysis and how does it actually work? Well, water electrolysis is simply the breaking down of water into its basic hydrogen and oxygen atoms by passing an electrical current through it. It really is as straightforward as that, although different methods have different efficiency levels. It is not even necessary to introduce an electrolyte like acid to the water to assist electrical conductivity. Normal water from the tap is all that's needed.

Until recently, the problem with a water electrolysis system was that the electrical energy required to perform the electrolysis exceeded the energy produced from the combustion of the oxygen and hydrogen. In other words, while it may have been a cleaner way of running a vehicle, it was thoroughly inefficient and wasteful of valuable energy.

But nowadays, systems such as the HydroStar employ modules which produce low voltage, specifically shaped electronic pulses of unique frequency and duration. (It may be of interest to some readers to note that this type of electronic technology, involving specific combinations of pulse frequency and duration, is now starting to be used in medicine to cure migraine, depression and other nervous disorders.) Modules used for vehicles keep overall power consumption low, low enough in fact for a vehicle's alternator to power it and leave enough surplus power for headlights and other electrical requirements.

It is difficult to establish the precise efficiency of such hydrogen fuel powered car systems. That will depend on factors such as how well the system is fitted, vehicle aerodynamics and weight, and how the vehicle is driven. It goes without saying that if the claims of up to 300 miles per gallon of water are even remotely accurate, efficiency ratings become redundant when you consider the price of a gallon of tap water. As far as the vehicle's performance is concerned, there should be little change as the same factory-fitted combustion engine is employed. Hydrogen fuel powered vehicles are by their nature safer than using gasoline.

A hydrogen fuel system is predominantly water with just a very small amount of hydrogen stored in the generator, while a gasoline system requires great amounts of combustible gas stored in a gas tank. A hydrogen fuel conversion system is also extremely versatile, requiring no alterations to a vehicle's existing gasoline powered system. Indeed, it is possible to switch back to the gas system any time a consumer may wish without any hassle. The choice is always in the hands of the owner. Say you encounter a problem with your hydrogen fuel system, you can simply switch back to gas while the hydrogen fuel problem is rectified.

Hydrogen fuel conversion systems can be used for more than just cars and trucks. Pretty much any home appliance using propane or natural gas is a candidate. The power supply will need to be converted to 12V DC, but that's very easy and inexpensive to do. (Or simply buy a cheap converter.) Think about a system that uses maybe one dollar a month in electricity powering appliances, stoves, furnaces, barbecue grills and the like right throughout your home.

Whether for automotive or home use, systems are fairly easy to assemble and install. Practical, step-by-step, hydrogen fuel system guides are readily available and cheap to purchase. No specialist tools are needed, although a little practice at electronic soldering may be advisable. But even that is relatively easy. An oscilloscope could be handy to test for efficiency and make adjustments, but it's certainly not a prerequisite.

Still using juice from the lamb and vegetables add jelly and simmer to thicken. Squeeze cooked garlic cloves into the mixture. Dress vegetables with parsley and sit the leg of lamb on a serving dish..

Capon Dinner

Not quite as big but yet as tasty like the traditional bird is the Capon or as some folks say the "castrated rooster." The capon is a large poultry bird bigger than a chicken. Capon as the centerpiece for Christmas lunch is an ideal substitute.

Capon cooking and ingredients:

4 to 6-pound capon
1/2 cup melted butter
salt and black pepper
4 tbsps basil
4 tbsps thyme
4 tbsps tarragon
2 tbsps rosemary, finely chop as with the 3 above
3 tbsps minced garlic
2 medium onions, quartered
2 sticks of celery, sliced
Cube 2 red apples
Dice 2 green apples
1/2 cup white wine
3 cups chicken stock

Fresh is always best, however if your capon comes frozen thaw in refrigerator for 48 hours. Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F. Swill capon thoroughly with cold water and kitchen towel dry. Place poultry in middle of a roasting dish and season with salt and pepper. Using a small basin mix melted butter with the chopped herbs and garlic to make a paste. Rub this under the breast skin and over outer skin. Circulate capon giblets along with diced vegetables and apples into the dish. Pack tightly over with tin foil and roast like this for 2 1/2 hours. Check for tenderness at 2 hours. Remove foil and allow skin to brown. When cooked remove capon from roasting dish and keep warm. A tasty sauce is easily made from dish drippings.

Discard as much of the fat as possible from the dish without upsetting the natural drippings. Be careful while in the process of making the sauce to avoid burns. Place dish over high heat to caramelize juice. Deglaze drippings with wine, scraping the dish with a spatula. Add chicken stock, and allow it to simmer. Do not boil and reduce to approximately 1 cup. Strain and season - then serve the sauce with sliced capon.

I bet throughout the whole time while you followed both recipes given here not once did Turkey come into mind. Just proving a point that's all. Tradition or not, if it tastes as good as it looks then you are onto a winner

A Cold Air Intake, is it Worth It?

As the price of gas goes up many people are looking for accessories or aftermarket parts to add to their cars in order to improve their gas mileage. One of the first and relatively inexpensive upgrade parts that will make an automobile hotter, figuratively, is a cool air intake. High-performance cool air intake systems help engines run on the air by trapping and filtering the air as it comes into the engine. These air intake systems provide cool air coming through the grill or front fender of the car which is a more appealing option than grabbing warm air from under the hood. This works on a simple principle: cool air is denser than hot air. This means more oxygen is supplied to the engine, which works with the fuel to give the car more power thus making the engine work less increasing your fuel consumption.

As we know most people are frustrated with the skyrocketing gasoline prices. Many people want to get the best fuel consumption rate from their vehicles and rightly so. The only way to get the best gas mileage is by pushing your car around where you want to go. This is of course is not an option. However, there are a few things that can be done to get the best fuel consumption rate out of your car such as adding a cool air intake. When it comes to increasing the mileage of your car, the basic problem you will encounter is how you maintain your car and your driving habits without a cool air intake.

You can purchase performance kits that include all the hardware you will need to install your cool air intake system . When your system has been installed you may actually hear the air as it enters the filter. Many manufacturers claim that by using a Cold air intake systems you'll actually get better gas mileage with your car.

P. Diddy Makes Sean John Rims For Luxury SUV's, Trucks, And Cars

Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has already made his mark as a musician and all-around entertainment entrepreneur. P. Diddy has built up his empire from a record label to a conglomerate of "gangster chic" consumer items, he now has another money making machine on his hands. Diddy is now in the auto parts business designing luxury custom car and truck rims with Weld Wheel Industries Inc.

The 50-50 joint venture between Combs' Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment Group and Kansas City's Weld Wheel Industries Inc. was announced at the 2005 New York International Auto Show and targets sports trucks, luxury SUVs and high-end American and German automobiles. The Sean John signature wheel designs retail between $700 to $3,000 each and are a high-end, quality alternative to mainstream custom wheels.

Styling and innovation is synonymous with Combs, and Sean Jean Wheels are all about hot styling. Designed specifically to reflect the sexy, sophisticated P. Diddy lifestyle image. Sean John Wheels are custom crafted for unmatched strength, lightness, and optimum brake cooling ability, and combine stylish, aggressive multi-spoke designs with an aura of elegance that will top off any custom or luxury ride.

In the urban market, custom rims have become a fashion statement if not a "badge of honor". Can any urban lifestyle brand now be complete without a line of dubs? Seriously, chrome rims are the new cologne. Sean's personal choice is the Zeus model which he's added as the finishing touch to his Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The way they've designed the Diddy's line of wheels, they look like they're moving even when they're not. Each of the nine designs- from the elegant six-spoke to the amazingly intricate 18-spoke versions - are built to Weld's legendary toughness and durability standards, delivering low moment of inertia for improved acceleration and air flow to help cooling and reduce lift and drag. They have even given them ancient Greek names like: Zeus, Atlas and Apollo just to name a few.

Your car really is not finished until you buy your custom rims for it. That kind of dictates who you are, like in your Benz, Phantom Rolls Royce, or your Chevy, Ford or whatever car you drive.

Before you go out and spend three to twelve thousand dollars, you need to do some research. You need to read up on the following wheel characteristics: backspace, bolt patterns, centerbore, offset, plus sizing, spacers, wheel adapters and proper torque.

Reflux Gone Forever Presents the Perfect Holiday Dinner Menu

When the brilliant colors of autumn are gone and the weather starts to turn a bit nippy, we look ahead to the holiday season with wonderful images of the past dancing in our heads. It's a magical time when we are reunited with friends and family; a time when children are the happiest and all of us are at our very best. Needless to say delicious food will be the cornerstone of all this festivity.

Whether it's Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years, it's truly a challenge to prepare food that is acid reflux friendly. During the holiday season, we are tempted to indulge in all those fatty, sweet and acidic foods that we enjoyed so much in childhood. We like to think of this as comfort food, however, acid indigestion is anything but comfort to those who suffer from it.

Complete abstinence from acidic, fatty and sweet food would defeat the purpose of celebrating the holidays. Dishes that do not bring back memories of childhood would do the same. Thankfully, there are simple ways to make seasonal dishes healthier without ruining all the fun.

If you can't resist that holiday drink or chocolate dessert then it would be wise to let moderation be your guide. Also, keep in mind that eating too much of even the most alkaline food can cause indigestion, as well.

I have created what I consider to be the perfect holiday menu. The dishes below retain the important flavors of the season, yet are healthy enough for most acid reflux sufferers to enjoy in comfort. The entire family will love this dinner. It's also quick and uncomplicated to prepare. This menu will feed six easily with leftover beef.

Bon appetite!

Note: This wonderfully festive dessert can be prepared hours before dinner is served. If you should use the wrong apple and, or if your apple patterns go amiss, don't despair. You can't go wrong with this rustic dish. It will look appetizing anyway it turns out. Just say that you intended it to be that way!

Bon appetite!

Press Cookies For Christmas

Press Christmas cookies are one way to make interesting and delicious cookies for the Holiday season. They do require some special equipment and are one of the more complex cookies to make for Christmas. But once you get the hang of it, they are worth it. And making pressed cookies with your kids can become one of your Christmas traditions.

It takes a bit of practice to make press cookies come out picture perfect. Press cookies are forced through a disk that has a cut out shape, for example a star or Christmas tree. It is forced out through the use of a plunger pressing through a long tube you load with cookie dough. The tube has a place to insert die's or the disks with the shape you want on one side and a handle on the other with a sliding top which moves down the tube in order to press the cookie dough through the disk's design. Wilton makes a great line of cookie presses that come with a wide variety of cookie shapes.

There is a variety of different cookie presses out there from simple and inexpensive to professional grade. Disks are usually not interchangeable so keep this in mind when getting your press. There are a number of recipes you can use with press cookies with a variety of ingredients. One of the common ingredients is cream cheese. If you do not have a cookie book that has press cookies in it, there are a number of websites that provide great recipes for press cookies.

Children can help you assemble the ingredients, choose the shape of the cookies, and if they have the strength, help press the cookies.

Here is a basic recipe to get you started this recipe is for whipped shortbread. Whipped shortbread is a variation of a regular shortbread recipe that has been modified to work with a cookie press.

Basic Press Cookies

Ingredients

1 lb butter

1 C Powdered Sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Pinch of salt

1/2 c cornstarch

3 C all purpose flour

Instructions

1. Start by preheating your oven to 350 F.

2. While your oven is preheating, cream butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and salt.

3. Once these ingredients have a creamy consistence gradually, add the cornstarch and flour. Use an electric mixer to whip these ingredients till fluffy.

4. Place some of the dough into the cookie press, following your cookie press' directions and press out cookies onto a cool baking sheet.

You can decorate these cookies with candied cherries, pieces of cherries, sprinklers or whatever else you might want to use for decoration the place them in the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes. Take them out of the oven and let cool at least 2 minutes on the baking sheet before moving them to a wire cooling rack. Then simply store in an airtight container.

The thing to remember with press cookies is that because they are being pressed through small openings, the dough needs to be fairly compact within the cookie press. This will help to prevent breaks in the cookies and make sure that each pressed cookie is complete. Just about any cookie recipe can be used to make press cookies however, it must be plain dough or one that has very small pieces of things like nuts and cannot be too dense like oatmeal.

Butter is the best choice over margarine or shortening because it will help the dough keep it's shape. The dough should be at room temperature but you can chill the cookie press itself.

Using a cookie press results in a really elegant cookie that is easy once you get the hang of it. Try the recipe above with different food coloring and your green Christmas trees or yellow stars will delight young and old alike.

BMW Previews the New Generation BMW X3

BMW have released initial specifications of the second generation BMW X3 and the SUV will be officially launched at the upcoming Paris Motor Show this October 2010. The mid-sized BMW SUV keeps its same position in the BMW hierarchy by slotting in neatly between the small hatchback sized X1 and the Range Rover sized X5 SUVs. As usual, it blends in both the new X1 and X5 looks and is a familiar shape with all the latest BMW styling cues especially that new larger, nostrils err... kidney grill on its nose and the Hoffmeister kink at the C-pillars (or D-pillars since its an SUV). It looks slightly better than the previous X3 but it is still not something I would go crazy over.

So what is new with the new but very similar X3? It now boasts and extra 78mm in length (now 4648mm). It is slightly narrower, which is surprising (4mm less and now 1855mm) and 14mm taller at 1675mm. It also sports a 15mm longer wheelbase (now 2810). The rear door apertures are larger so that big people have easier access (I don't know how bad the rear access could be on the previous as the X3 wasn't exactly that tiny in the first place) and the boot, has a 70liter increase in capacity (550liters).

The interior now boasts a new dashboard, multi-function steering wheel, new seats and better trim. According to BMW, it will be on par with the BMW 3 series and they also hope that the interior will not be criticized like the earlier model. Actually, BMW needs to buck up in the interiors of their cars. Two weeks ago I sat in an X1 and i was pretty appalled by the very noticeable lack of quality in the materials used.

This second generation X3 will have a newly designed double wishbone front suspension and variable damping absorbers. The suspension system will have the BMW Dynamic Control System which also controls the throttle response, engine mapping (for power or economy) and steering response.

The new X3 will be exclusively four wheel drive, and the entry-level 181bhp, 2.0-litre manual X3 xDrive20d will offer combined economy of 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 149g/km. BMW will also introduce the new X3 with a 302bhp, 3.0-litre, turbocharged straight six petrol in the range topper, the X3 xDrive35i. The diesel will come standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional ZF-engineered eight-speed automatic. The 3.0 turbo xDrive35i will get the auto as standard, allowing it to hit 62mph in 5.7sec and a 152mph top speed. It will also return a claimed 32.1mpg and emit 204g/km of CO2. Both X3s will have standard stop-start function and operate in combination with a brake energy recuperation system. The X3 will also have a new electric power steering system for extra fuel saving. This feature may rob the X3 of steering feel as most electric steering somehow does this.

The X3 should be available by the first quarter of 2011 in all major markets.

5 Things to Do With an Old Garden Hose

Next time you have an old garden hose that you are just going to throw out, don't! There are many things you can do with an old garden hose - even cracked or badly cracked or leaky hoses. Here are some terrific ideas to reuse the old garden hose and recycled into fun projects.

1. Construct a soaker hose for your plants or garden. Take that leaky hose drill a few more holes in it and attach it to a regular hose with a brass or plastic couple. You'll need to seal off one end of the soaker hose with a plastic cap. Now put the hose near your plants or garden or you can bury it in a shallow trench. Allow the water to flow only as a trickle and leave on for 30 to 45 minutes.

2. You can even use an old hose as a bucket handle. Cut a short piece of hose with a slit on one end. You'll be surprised the weight of the bucket you can carry with the hose as your handle.

3. For those who love camping, try this one to add some cool colors to your next campfire. Take a half-inch copper piping and cut into small sections. Insert the rubber hose into the copper piping and cut it down. Place in the fire and wants the beautiful colors. Kids love this one.

4. Tree support. You have an old tree that is leaning? Try using an old garden hose is as a support. Slip over old port cable through the hose then the string the hose on the tree. This will prevent rope or cable burn onto the tree itself.

5. We would not recommend this one but you can use an old garden hose as a gas siphon. Only in case of emergency though!

Types of Digital Meat Thermometers

There are different types and kinds of digital thermometers available in the market today. Meat thermometers are gadgets used to measure the temperature of meat, whether turkey meat, ham, roasts, and even poultry. The types of digital thermometer being sold in the market today have specification depending on the type of use.

Digital meat measuring temperature is helpful to us because by measuring the temperature, we make sure that the meat is ready to eat, the bacteria are destroyed, and the health threats are minimal and manageable. At the same time, if we take a closer look at it, meat thermometers are to our advantage since it will give us an appropriate temperature rate that is conducive for eating. This article will be dealing more about the types of meat measuring temperature and their usage.

The first type of digital thermometer is the regular meat thermometer. These are the typical meat thermometers that are used and inserted toward the meat being processed in the oven. These types of meat measuring temperature are easy to read. They go along with the meat in the beginning of the cooking. There are a lot of models, and brands of regular thermometers. This type is also called oven-proof meat thermometers since it works best inside the oven.

There are particular brands that have several features like a long probe. This probe is inserted to the meat while it is being cooked. This will allow really accurate results. However, what is commendable is you don't have to open the oven to check if the meat has reached a desirable temperature since the digital display can be seen outside the oven. This type of meat thermometer is the most commonly used meat measuring temperature today.

Another type of digital meat measuring temperature is called the instant-read digital type of meat thermometer. The good thing about this type of thermometer is you don't have to leave it from the start to the end of the cooking. All you have to do is to let the meat finish cooking, after some time, while the meat is freshly out from any cooking container and it is still hot, you can insert the digital meat thermometer into eat and the gadget will be giving you a quick reading for just a few seconds.

The logic behind it is the ability of this thermometer type to show the reading in split seconds while the meat is still hot. The temperature of the meat allows the reading to be accurate.

Another type of digital meat thermometer is the pop-up type. These types of meat thermometers are commonly used in poultry an seldom use at home. Another type of meat thermometer is the micro-wave safe thermometer wherein it is specifically designed to be used for microwave ovens only.

These are just some of the common types of digital meat measuring temperature being used by many people. For those health-conscious people out there who wanted to make sure that they are eating safe meats and poultry foods, this type of equipment is a gadget. Aside from ensuring safety from the food we eat, we will be educated about the temperature range of a healthy meat against the non-healthy ones.

The Tata Safari - An Excellent Off Roader

The Tata safari is an excellent off road car for the Indian market. This SUV manufactured by Tata motors was first launched with a 1.9 liter turbo diesel engine. Later, Tata launched their new range of engines called the DICOR engine. The Tata safari DICOR was a big hit in the market because of the loads of power that it delivered. Tata also launched the petrol driven Safari's way back in 2005. The Tata Safari is a tough car with a powerful engine and a sporty design. It performed brilliantly on rough terrain, making it the most preferred SUV for many years.

Engine

The safari is available in different engine variants. The diesel model runs on a 486 DL turbo-charged engine and churns out a 90 PS @ 4300 RPM. The latest Safari DICOR models have a 2.2 liter 16 valve DICOR engine that delivers a whooping 140 PS of power at 4000 RPM. The Safari is also available in petrol versions. The petrol version has an MPFI engine that churns out 127 PS @ 5630 RPM. All these engines are excellent and provide a very good and enjoyable drive.

Design and Comfort

All the latest models have undergone many changes and look different from the earlier models. The car now has a lot of attractive features like a new front grill and sparkling head and tail lamps. All these new features on the new Safari add to the overall appeal of the Tata safari. The interior of this car is also really good.

It has luxurious 2 toned interiors that are very spacious and comfortable to sit in. The wooden finish on the central console also adds to the beauty of the Tata Safari's interiors. It also has a trendy instrumentation cluster and a neat gear knob that looks sporty as well as attractive. It also comes with a DVD player with LCD screen on the back of the head rests.

There are three models of the Safari - 4x2 LX TCIC, DICOR 2.2 VTT and MPFI EXI. The DICOR version of the Safari is available in- EX, LX and VX models. Daytona 500 Party - Cars, Racing And All Of The Party Tips You Need

Nascar fans everywhere love this event, and a Daytona 500 party is almost a no brainer, but if you want to go all out, consider renting a big screen TV, and if the weather is good, you might even think about setting it up in the back yard. Nascar is the fastest growing sport in the country, and the best part is your Daytona 500 party can be uber casual and requires a minimum of effort to be a rousing hit.

Decorate with black and white checks and die cast cars to maintain the Daytona theme. Black and white balloons and caution tape work as well, especially if you have your party outdoors.
Outdoor Daytona 500 parties and cook outs go hand in hand. A large igloo cooler full of iced drinks, or kegs of beer and disposable cups keep with the Daytona theme (just remember to set up trash barrels near by) as do hot dogs on the grill.

For indoor parties, consider finger foods such as bite sized sausages simmering in crockpots of barbeque sauce, chips and veggies and dip, sandwiches (even a party sized sub from a local sub shop) or barbeque beef or pork can be made ahead of time, and kept warm in crock pots to be served on an as needed basis, and stash coolers with bottled or canned soda and beer. Be sure to have trash receptacles nearby, and use throw away eating utensils and paper plates to keep clean up to a minimum.

For an added activity, set up a betting booth. Guests can bet on winners, places in the race, accidents, etc. and the winner takes the purse. Another fun activity is to get unassembled model cars. Have the guests divide up into teams. The first team finished assembling their car wins a prize. Your Daytona 500 Party is sure to be a success for any nascar fan.
